Since my awakening in 2009, I’ve been researching many aspects of spirituality with a focus on what happens when we die. I’ve garnered lots of information from books about past lives, soul planning and NDEs (near death experiences), mediums, channels, spiritual teachers, as well as through the various memberships I’ve been part of. I’ve come to learn a lot about the death process, life reviews, the nature of the spirit world, reincarnation and the soul planning process.
I’ve decided to share what I’ve learned - as well as what I’ve channeled from my Higher Self and team of Spirit Guides - in a series of blogs, starting this month. Over the coming months I’ll be answering questions like "What happens when we die?" "What is karma?" "Do we come back?" "When we return, can we be a different gender/race/species?" "Is time travel real?" and "What are parallel realities?"
In this blog we’ll be taking a look at the death process. But before we begin…
Grounding exercise
These concepts can be quite hard to grasp, and when a subject is too ‘out there’ we can find it difficult to understand and remember. In order to be better able to integrate these concepts we will need to start with a brief grounding and energy management exercise.
Start by focusing on your breath, taking several slow, deep breaths and quietening down the mind.
Then imagine you have roots coming out of the soles of your feet, plunging deep into the Earth below you. These roots travel all the way to the very core of the Earth, connecting you to the planet’s energy.
As your roots connect you, you draw up the energy from the centre of the Earth which comes all the way up, into your feet and up your legs, into your body. This energy travels all the way up through every chakra, every cell of your body, right up and out of the top of your head. This energy cleanses you of anything that doesn’t serve your highest good and envelops you in a layer of protection.
Take a slow exhale and feel yourself relax. Now let’s begin.
The death process - what happens when we die
When a human dies, we cross through the veil and back into the spirit world. But before we get there, we are shown a route – some people see a tunnel with a bright light at the end, others see a door – we are shown this in a way that feels comforting to us. Our Spirit Guides and/or loved ones will be there to meet us, showing themselves to us in a form that is familiar – so we might see a loved one looking like they did when they had a physical body. This is so we can recognise their energy. We are never alone when we’re crossing over.
The Inbetween
We are taken to the ‘in-between’, a place in between life and death, so that we can reintegrate with our spirit and get comfortable with the fact that we no longer have a physical body. When in the in-between, we start to detach from our ego and emotions. We start to remember the true nature of the universe. We feel connected to everything, stepping into unification and stepping out of linear time. This is a process that we work through, shedding the denser layers of human emotion and ego and remembering what we knew before incarnating.
Life Review
Once we have detached from our ego and emotions, we are then given a life review which captures our life’s key moments. We are shown these key moments from everyone’s perspective – from our perspective, the other person’s, their family etc. We get the full experience so that we can see the ripple effect of our words and behaviours. This is not meant to be a form of punishment or to tell us what we did ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ – that’s a human perception. In the in-between, there is no right or wrong, there is just a review. It’s a neutral experience. We aren’t praised or punished! We come to Earth to have the fullness of experience and we will, at times, play different roles – victim, perpetrator, saviour etc. At this stage we want to understand all aspects of our experience, from all perceptions. The human part of us (the ego) might not want to do this! – but the soul does.
Once the review is complete we cross over into the spirit world and we are fully reunited with all of our passed loved ones, humans and animal! We rejoin our Higher Self, which is a huge energy source from which our soul originates. We remember and reconnect with all our other lives, all our other experiences and we regain the knowledge we had before we incarnated. We gain wisdom from the passing process and the life review, but we keep our personality and all of our memories from this lifetime. Bear in mind our personality is our mannerisms, not their behaviours – i.e. if someone was unkind on the Earth, they won’t be like that in spirit. That’s because our perspective changes once we return to the spirit world.
Near Death Experiences (‘NDEs’)
It's my understanding from the research I’ve done that Near Death Experience (NDEs) happen in the in-between. This is why often people report travelling into the light or going down a tunnel, and then sometimes they meet with Spirit Guides or passed loved ones from the ‘other side’. This is when they are told they have to return to Earth, as they’re not yet ready to cross over. Many people report not wanting to come back as they feel so peaceful without the constraints of the physical body, but they do return and are then able to share their experiences with others, which can prove very comforting.
One book I would recommend on the subject of NDEs is The Art of Dying by Peter and Elizabeth Fenwick. Dr Peter Fenwick is a highly-regarded neuropsychiatrist who has studied the human brain, consciousness and NDEs for over 50 years. In this Telegraph article, Dr Fenwick provides more information about NDEs and this Psychology Today article focuses on whether consciousness exists inside or outside of the brain.
Look out for next month’s blog when I’ll delve into reincarnation, karma and the soul planning process!
